Our Library Makeover

Hello everyone,

I hope you are having a good
week. It is hard to believe it is
November already.

I think I mentioned that we
were giving our library a makeover.

We painted the walls and fireplace
Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore.

It was a bit scary at first but when we
got the room all done and put back
together we were happy with it.

I am still tweaking it a bit and
the mirror has already been
switched out for an antique
one which I like better but
I haven't taken a new photo
of it yet.

I added some houseplants to give
it some color.

I just realized that I didn't take a photo
from the angle that shows the bookcases
so I will do that soon. I am looking
forward to decorating it soon for
Christmas.
After we finished this room we went
on to the porch/mudroom and
gave it a new look as well.

If you would like to see what it
looked like before check it out

Thank you for visiting,

Carolyn

Dearest Carolyn,
That took guts for making that leap from light to a muted black...
It sure gives it a more cozy look, especially for winter days when using it most.
Hugs,
Mariette

I am loving this look so much- very warm and cozy- just how you should feel in a library. I have been wanting to do my sitting room in a darker color, and your post has definitely inspired me to go for it. Thanks so much for sharing!

I love it!! Years ago, I listened to Christopher Lowell on his TV show when he said to use deep rich color to make your room look like a jewel box..This is exactly what you did. I also remember him saying that deep colors can be frightening until you move everything back into your rooms and then watch how everything just pops against the colored walls!! Your room s an example of just that!..So warm , cozy, inviting and charming!! LOVE IT!!!!
Hugs,
Deb

It’s absolutely lovely. I love how the gray makes it all cozy for fall and winter reading and tea!

I never would have thought that such a deep dark gray could look so good! It looks fantastic on the fireplace! And then all the pops of the light furniture and curtains.. it really does make one want to curl up in one of the chairs by the fire with hot cocoa and a good magazine or book. I have a guest room that is an ugly blue and I want to repaint it, and my son, who visits me now and then, thinks a deep burgundy would look good. I went.. what??? but now I think hum.m.m. maybe it WOULD look good with some lighter furniture and lighter colors. Thank you for the inspiration! Marilyn

I love it.

That dark color works great in the room with the big windows and white curtains. Very dramatic. A cozy place where I could spend time reading or having tea.

What a wonderful room. Having a library like that, with a fireplace to boot, is one of my most cherished dreams!
