Christmas Touches in our Library

    Hello everyone,

The sun was shining brightly in

the library when I took these shots

of our library. I am not done decoratin

yet but even a few lights etc. give it

a cozy glow.

It seems I got started early on my

Christmas decorating and then

was content with it so 

i stopped for a bit 

but one of our big

trees is going up today.

Always, nice to enjoy my tea in

the library.

Red and white transferware is

one of my favorites so I

have collected quite a few

piecs over the years.

This was the library a couple

of years ago ....love all the 

lights at night or even on a

dark day to cheer things up.

Hopefully, I will be back soon

with the rest of the story!

Livingroom Makeover

Hello again,

After doing some puttering in the house this morning I am looking forward to getting out to the garden on this lovely sunny day here on the Island(of course ,that is Prince Edward Island for those of you who may think there is any other Island). Before I go out to the garden I thought I would share a few photos of the continuing saga of our livingroom makeover.

I wanted to make our open living room into a more cozy spot for reading and dining etc. so it is more of a library now. We had a carpenter come(Peter MacDonald-Thank you!) and he put the wall in between the hallway and livingroom turned library. The wall has sliding french pocket doors so we can easily keep the room opened up without taking up space.. The wall was originally there but someone had removed it before we bought the house thirty four years ago.The openness of the house worked well when there were seven children running around but now with just my husband and I living here I could picture a warm cozy place to read by the fireside on those long winter evenings. My husband joked that he can't wait for a snowstorm so he can actually sit for a spell and read in here!

This wall was put back in about ten years ago but the carpenter also built the bookcases for us and we love them!

I am planning on rolling up the carpet for the summer and giving the floors a coat of varnish. I am also on the lookout for a round table that will seat 4-6 people .When all our family come for dinner we have a long table that folds down that we can still use in here.

I am still playing with the shelve organization.

This is a woodburning fireplace that we only use on special occassions-but you are special so I lit it for you! We painted the fireplace and had Peter(our carpenter) build the mantel above to tie it all in and then we painted it to match the bookcases etc.

This is the new wall from the hallway. The clock in the corner was my parents and I plan to paint it ivory some time soon.

This is a new chair that our children gave me for Mother's Day- I was so happy !

This is the view from the other side. The old armoire is also on my list for a makeover.

Well ,that is our livingroom turned library makeover for now. When I finish the whole project I will have you back to see it!

Our Library at Christmas

      Hello!

            I hope you are enjoying a lovely

      weekend.

               I find it hard to believe Christmas

                will be here and gone in 2 weeks!

                   I have been enjoying the cozy lights

                      etc. in our library.

                                                              We just finished putting up
                                                              our big tree in here but I didn't
                                                              get any photos of it yet.

                                                                      It is a cozy place for
                                                                      dining as well as reading.

                                                                               

                                                              I have set the table for a romantic
                                                              dinner for two.

                                                                My collection of Friendly Village by
                                                                Johnson Bros. is out on display for the
                                                                winter season.

Tea, anyone?

     With the long evenings it is so

          nice to dine by the fireside and if

               you noticed that I am short on words,

             dinner is cooking as we speak and I

           plan to enjoy it here in our library.

Autumn Days

Hello everyone,

We are enjoying such a lovely

autumn here. I notice that

tender annuals are still blooming

in pots on doorsteps which doesn't

usually happen here this late in

the season.

Did I mention that after our library

project we decided to give our

porch/ mudroom a makeover?

We were happy with the color paint

we used in the library so we did the

porch the same color Wrought Iron

by BM.

This is just a little preview of it.

My husband built the bench with

cedar and I painted and made the

pillows and curtains so it kept us

both busy for a couple of days.

This beautiful large platter was on display

for the fall here but coming down now

to make room for Christmas......

I got this platter a few years ago at the

70 mile yard sale which due to covid

restrictions we haven't had for the past

two years but hopefully next fall it

will return.

Just in case you wanted to know the maker

of the platter I took a shot of the back for you.

It is still lovely to enjoy relaxing

by our pond.

The garden has been all cleaned up

now but there is still some

autumn colors left.

After coming in from our lovely

autumn walks we enjoy a cup of

tea by the fire this time of the year.

Our Library/ Dining Room

Hello everyone,

   I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. We had some lovely sunny warm weather here and I was able to get some bulbs planted in the garden. I found a great sale on them at Vankempen's- they are $1. a bag for anyone local who is interested.

   Anyway, I am sharing a few changes in our library/dining room. I did get a new smaller round table (perfect for four)and I traded a bigger carpet with my daughter for this smaller one that shows more of the hardwood floor.

  We already had this candle chandelier but it was used outdoors in the terrace in summer so now it hangs over the table in the library(from looking at the pics I think I will lower it a bit though).

  It looks really cozy at night with the lighted candles.

 I am a window peeper or door in this case!

 There used to be a big armoire in this corner as some of you may remember. My other daughter gave me this old chair that i love but it needs to be recovered so I just put some fabric on it for now but what I really wanted to show you in this corner is the French looking tapestry. I loved it the minute I saw it at Coulson's and it was only $16,

I put this picture in to show you the armoire before pic.

This is what it looks like now upstairs in our guest room. I really like how it turned out but might antique it someday.
