Merry Christmas from our House to Yours !

      Merry Christmas!

Once again December has passed by
quickly and now it is Christmas Eve.

Since we have a big family it
is always good to have as much
       preparation for Christmas dinner
         done before Christmas day arrives.
So, one of things I like to have done
is to have our tables moved and chairs
brought up from the basement for all
so we have seating for all of us!

Our dining area tree.

I used my red and white transferware
again this year....it is my biggest collection.
                                                                    We use two rooms.

I keep it simple as no one
wants to spend hours on
cleanup.

There is some stormy weather
headed our way so hopefully
it holds off until late in the
day so travel is good.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas
and many blessings in the New Year!
Thank you to all who visited me this year
and thanks to all who leave nice comments
                                                        all year.

                                                                            Love,
                                                                                 Carolyn

The Charm of Winter

       Hello everyone,

This morning we woke up to our first real
snowfall, although we had a dusting a
few times it was followed by rain.

As someone who enjoys snow in winter
I bundled up and went out with my camera
                                                               to enjoy the beauty.

I gathered up some of my favorite
plaids to add color to our snowy
                                                                    scene.
I love this old coal hod filled with
greenery from the garden and
sprinkled with snow.

This old plaid throw was bought in Scotland
many years ago by my husbands Scottish
grandfather.
Skating season has begun but today
my old skates are purely decorative.

                    The old birdhouse looks charming
    with greenery and snow.

I took a walk down to our pond to
see if the ice was solid but have to
wait awhile yet to go skating on it.

The Boathouse door in winter

I think I will grab my camera and get back
out there for a bit because alas there is rain
                                                    headed our way again soon.
Do you enjoy snow too ?

                                                                 Hope all your Christmas plans
are going well.....it will be here
                                                                 before we know it!
                                                                                Take care,

                                                                                           Carolyn

A Friendly Village Christmas

                                                                             Hello everyone,

On this cold wintry day it is nice
                                                           to be cozy indoors.
I have set the table with some
of my Friendly Village china today
from Johnson Brothers. It is always
                                                           pretty but especially at Christmas.

I used silver chargers along with
silver stars etc.

It is a good day to enjoy
                                                                      tea by the fireside.
                                                                    I made some gingerbread cookis
                                                                     to go with our tea.
                                                                Friendly Village teacups and a
                                                                small Friendly Village teapot.
                                                                A Christmas arrangement with fresh
greens adds a cozy look .
So nice to have a little time to
                                                                    relax during this busy season.

I hope you all have a wonderful
                                                                   weekend !

                                                                                     Take care,

                                                                                            Carolyn

Our Guest Room Makeover

                                                                              Hello everyone,

Last winter my husband and I gave one
of our guest rooms a makeover and I never
got around to sharing it until now.
So, the first thing we did was strip off
the toile wallpaper that had been on for several
years along with a few other layers that were
underneath....stripping wallpaper is one of my
                                                            least favorite jobs!
My husband put the pine board strips on the
old plaster walls and then we painted them white
on the bottom and soft grey on the top.

I bought new curtains at Homesence and
painted the armour the same soft grey.
The pine floors are original to the house,
so they are 100 years old. I would like to
refinish them this winter but we shall see.

The grey quilt also came from Homesense.

                                                                       The antique dresser was painted
and I recovered the thrift store chair
                                                                        in the corner.
A touch of Christmas on the
         tea tray.

                                                                      This was the room before

Well, it did make quite a change in the
                                                               room  and maybe updated it.
Visitors often say it is like stepping
back in time when they come here
so I am never sure if I will ever catch
                                                                up!  Ha! Ha!
                                                                                    Thank you for visiting,

                                                                                                      Carolyn

Winter Picnic

          Hello everyone,

We finally got a dusting of snow here
Monday night so I was happy to get
some outdoor shots before it melted
as it rained the next day.

A little winter picnic is always
fun.
Hot cocoa on a winter day
is a treat to me.

I found this enamalware pot
at the thrift store and snapped
it up for my winter picnic.

The arbor is decorated for winter
so it is a good backdrop.
A wool plaid throw is my
tablecloth today.

The cement statue is wearing
her winter garland.

I thought you might like a change
                                                          from my indoor Christmas so
grab a cup of cocoa before you
go and I will be back tomorrow with
with some our spare bedroom pics.

I am honored to have our home featured
on Anna's beautiful blog Shabby and Charm
today . I hope you will have time to pop in
                                                             check out all the inspiration!

I am joining Bernideen's Tea Time for
Friends Sharing Tea today so you can
also pop in and enjoy tea over there!

                                                                                    Take care,
                                                                                              Carolyn
