Cupboard Makeover for my Transferware Dishes

Hello everyone,

I have been doing some  painting projects
lately so I thought I would share this one
with you.
This cupboard was given to me and
I loved the cupboard but felt it needed
a color change to fit into our home better.
My transferware china did not show to its
best advantage with this look.

So,after a few coats of chalk paint I
I had fun putting some of my blue and
white mix of china in it.

These were a pretty thrift find.

Another thrift find ~ a soup tureen.

A tea set gift from my husband.

A pretty vintage tea pot from a friend.

I am still doing some tweaking on
it but enjoying the new look.

We are enjoying beautiful late summer
weather here so I must get out and enjoy
                                                               it.

                                                                                   Thank you for your visit!

                                                                                                      Carolyn

Just wanted to see your artwork on making that old and woodsy cabinet look warm and inviting for a tea cupboard. I just love blue and white china! I just ordered a blue and white teapot, so excited to expand my teapot collection!
Now I need more friends that have time to sit a spell and drink tea... LOL
Blessings to you... Roxy

Dear Carolyn,
I just love your dresser painted white, it's gorgeous! Did you strip the varnish off of it before you painted it? I have some wooden pieces that I would like to paint but I'm not sure if I should have them stripped first. Thanks for any help. Love your blog!

It looks wonderful and you are right that your transferware shows up much better on the painted cabinet!

I love chalk paint!

I love the white cupboard! I love all white cupboards and dressers in general as they look so clean and beachy and cottagey... and the blues show off much much better with the white. I have 3 pieces of furniture I'd like to paint, but it seems like such an overwhelming task that I never start it. The chalk paint looks beautiful.. I think that's what I would use too. Your blue transferware collection is just beautiful.. I love those spice jars.

I love your white cabinet. I have a cabinet the same and have made murmerings to my hubby wanting it to be painted white. I received silence. One day though. White is my happy, comfortable medium. Love your china display, it is set off beautifully in the white cabinet. We are into Spring here down under:)

Dear Suzanne,
Thanks for your visit! I did not strip the cupboard first ~ I just mixed some plaster of paris in hot water and added it to latex pearl finish white paint and put on 3 coats of paint. It seems to have adhered very well but only time will tell. You can check online for a recipe for making chalk paint.
Good luck with your project!

You did a great job, Carolyn. The cabinet looks spectacular. I'm a big fan of white paint and have been known to walk around my apartment with a brush and bit of paint and, you know, kind of touch things up. :) You can't go wrong with white paint. Doesn't hurt that you have some great china collections either.

Looks great, Carolyn!

You are so right about how it makes your blue pop on those gorgeous pieces!

Have a happy weekend. Still ridiculously hot here.

Hi Carolin

the cupboard looks great. I wish my husband would share my love for the shabby chic/ vintage style. But he is a fan of modern furniture.
