Autumn Joys!

We are settling into autumn here on the Island .We have already had frost a few nights and the garden has taken on it's autumn colors. I still take a lot of joy from the garden at this time of the year so I thought you might enjoy another tour around as well.

I love the English Garden magazine and I always admire their old wooden doors with vines etc. growing over and around them so this is my attempt at getting that English look in our garden. This used to be an entrance to our home but during a kitchen reno a few years ago this doorway was coming out . Instead of actually taking the door out and shingling over the hole. I thought we could leave this old wooden door on and fill in the wall behind it.So.it is actually a fake entrance with stone steps covered with plants so people don't stand there knocking. I know,I know,

I do come up with some crazy ideas but it works for me!

As you can see my Dad's old bike does get moved around the garden.

the fall asters are starting to bloom

these are tall asters given to me by a friend

Hard to beat Annebelle hydrangea's as they have been blooming since July

The obedient plant is a late bloomer-I love the color of this one.

some rudbeckia's still blooming

Forever pink hydrangeas

the limelight hydrangeas are getting very tall and reaching over our fence at the road

the sumacs are starting to take on their fall colors

faded beauties

some roses blooming among the rosehips

Therese Bugnet rose turns a pretty color in autumn

Prairie princess still has a few blooms

Sedum Autumn Joy is a good old fashioned plant that adds to the garden in all seasons but puts on its best show in autumn.

Graham Thomas has a few pretty blooms for me still

The sky is so beautiful. Oh! I forgot to share my beautiful sunset picture with you. Oh,well another day!
Another autumn joy- I am making green tomato chow today and I love the smell as it slowly simmers on the stove.

Thank you for visiting and for all the lovely words of encouragement you have left for me.

Take care,

Carolyn

Your gardens are nothing short of stunning. Are you a garden designer or something? If not, you surely could be!

Hello Carolyn...

Ooohhh...your autumn garden is looking fabulous, my friend! I bet that you are beginning to have some cold temps up where you live. It's getting colder and colder here in Colorado as well! I expect that we will have frost before too long.

I love how your old entrance door looks...all those beautiful vines, flowers and ohhh, that old bicycle! It does look just like an English garden, Darlin'!!! Sooo very beautiful!!! I spied that little pumpkin too!

I also took a tour through your last post...of all your fabulous yard sale finds! Girl, you made out like a bandit!!! Sooo, so many beautiful treasures! Sure enjoyed looking through them all...I especially like that green and white set of dishes that you found...so pretty! Ohh...and that lace tablecloth...gorgeous!!! Thank you for sharing your new pretties with us!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari

I think it is fair to say that you have definitely achieved that English Garden. I enjoy The English Garden magazine also as well as The English Home. Beautiful post and I particularly enjoyed the pic of the sedum. Another plant for me to investigate to see if I can grow it here. My Annabelle hydrangeas completed their bloom by July but I do enjoy them so.

Hi Carolyn,

Your garden still looks so beautiful. I like the part with the fake entrance. I think you succeeded in making it look English! You wrote about your mother and I was wondering. Could I do you a favour by sending some Dutch things like 'dropjes', 'hagelslag' or 'ontbijtkoek' for her? Your mother will probably remember them from her youth. I don't know if you can buy these kind of things on the island, but I would love to send them to you. Maybe it will bring back some good memories!

Lieve groet, Madelief

Great Autumnal colours.

Thank you so much for the wondeful tour. Your gardens are so lovely. I love what you did with the door! Everything is so magical and delightful. I awoke to snow on top of Mount Si. I live in the foothills of the Cascade Mtns. in WA. I was not to happy to see the snow down this low already as I am still working in my garden! LOL Sharon

Gorgeous...but I got stopped on the Sumac...those grow wild along our roadsides...I had no idea anyone planted them on purpose. I just love to soak in these fall colors.

Such beautiful fall colors! We are just barely having the leaves turn here, but I so enjoy seeing them no matter where. I wish I could have my hydrangeas last as long as yours. I will have to go on the hunt for more, and I do like the pink one. I have one that is quite small since I bought it at the end of last year, but it is called waterfall. That is exactly what the flowers do! I can't wait for that one to get bigger. I always enjoy all of your photos!
Take Care!

The colors are gorgeous...those purple asters are too too...I can't hardly take it all in, Carolyn, it's just so beautiful. Love that you left the door there...it looks wonderful there, along with your dad's bike...what a wonderful landscape you've created. I just left Arizona where my two brothers built homes out in the desert...what a contrast! They don't have a single blade of grass...it was hard for me to look outside without wanting to come home to my roses, and then to contrast with yours yard...what a difference!

God bless,
Mary

Your autumn garden is beautiful. I love the faux old entrance with the English look of vines growing up on it. The last shot of those pastel clouds is beautiful too!
