Hello everyone,
Well here we are already welcoming in the month of February. I love how the sun seems stronger and we actually gain 71 minutes of daylight this month. And besides that February is the month of romance with Valentine's Day right in the middle.
Yesterday, I had a fun day out with friends that started with the best breakfast I ever had at a friend's home(more on that later) and then my friend Heather and I made a stop at Lori's Timeworn Treasures and Antiques (more on that later too) where I bought the beautiful antique camisole above. I have always wanted one of these but never ran across one before. This one is about one hundred years old- reminds me of my favorite show Downton Abbey.
Love the handwork on this-is it tatting or crochet? Does anyone know?
This must be my most photographed lingerie. I love the sparkly lace and the soft peachy pink color.
Fake but still pretty.
Romantic! Did you notice the ladies hand crochet purse-it is a yardsale find from last summer. Love the beaded gloves too.
Romantic toile pillow also from Lori's shop last summer.
Little china replica of antique children's boots.
Lacy hearts
Vintage teacup.
An antique transferware jug.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Carolyn
I love your arrangements, they are very romantic:) Enjoy your weekend with your family:)
ReplyDeleteYou have me pondering as someone gave me an antique camisole once in a "secret sister swap". I wonder where I put it.......

You've got some beautiful treasures in this post, Carolyn! I love that beautiful lacy lingerie piece. The heart with the lace is so pretty and romantic. Love the toile pillow; I have a few of those myself. Can't resist toile!
ReplyDeleteWe've got some snow in our forecast for this weekend. I should be waking up tomorrow morning to almost 4 inches and it is supposed to snow through Sunday morning.

I believe your camisole is embellished with 'drawn work'. It is embroidery, where threads are counted and 'drawn' together with a wrapping stitch. Women's magazines used to publish charts for it. Hope that helps~
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful the lacy lingerie, you made beautiful photo arrangements again. Wish you a lot of skating pleasure these days!!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe the top of your camisole is a fine example of a filet crochet camisole yoke. The stitch which looks like a simple grid is plain filet stitch and the starburst diamonds are called spider stitch (which has many variations)and is frequently seen on edgings of curtains, towels, shelf edging, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely pictures you have shared with us -- you never disappoint!
oh wie wunderschön und romantische Bilder zeigst du uns.

My first thought on seeing your beautiful cami was that it is "fine drawn thread "embroidery. I still stay with that thought but must say it could be fine "filet" crochet. If I could see it up close it may have helped decide. It is truly beautiful. I don't get to see anything like that here in N.Z.I almost swooned at the lovely crochet purse, how gorgeous. Thank you for your lovely photos. Shirley from N.Z.

Beautiful images, all of them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. All the photos are just beautiful. I love visitng your blog.. It is always full of inspiration and romance.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, Regarding the camisole..several have differing opinions, I'm certain it is crochet and finely done. I've seen that design in other garments..your's is a very fine example. I check out your blog often, but have never commented...it's quite beautiful and I enjoy it very much. Love your photographs and your beautiful home and gardens!! One of my favorite posts was of the Christmas Cottage in the snow! Thank you. pat
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty finds, Carolyn! I've been enjoying simple and mild colors until I turned the calendar page, that is. Somehow, now, I have such a hunger for cheery color!
ReplyDeleteWe had an extremely mild spell, too, that opened all of the rivers and melted most of the snow and, now, my poor garden is out there in subzero weather - very cold - with no snow blanket! Yikes!!!
Alright! Anyway! =] May I pick two 'favorite things'? =] I love the pretty pale 'nightgown/slip' and that mirror is adorable! =] Very fun!

Delightful!
ReplyDeleteI love all your treasures..so feminine!
All my heart,
Deborah xoxo
