Hello everyone,
Last week I went on a field trip for homeschooling families with my daughter and little grandson Lucas to Orwell Corner Historic Village. It was a beautiful sunny day we we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.I took lots of photos so you could come along with me.
This old pump still works but the children discovered that it was a lot more work to get a cup of water then turning on a tap.
We got a little lesson on what a day in school was like in the good old days when one room had children from grades one to ten.
This pot belly stove was the only source of heat. I would be hoping for a seat by the stove.
Next we moved on to the general store and saw many of the things you could buy on a trip to the nearest store.
They had a few dishes that I admired!
In back of the General Store was the merchants home. I liked this cosy dining room.
A pretty bouquet on the kitchen table.
I like the warm glow in this bedroom.
They rented out rooms to dressmakers so this was one of their creations.
This home was not part of the tour but on the property.
We toured the church.
And saw some old farm machinery.
The farm animals were a big hit with the children.
After our picnic lunch we had a horse and wagon ride ,learned how to make candles and then headed for home.
We had a great day didn't we Lucas???
Today we went to see the play Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Centre with the same group. I am loving my little field trips! Lucas is enjoying being homeschooled and wants to make sure he can sign his Mom up for another year.
I hope you enjoyed stepping back in time with us.
Take care,
Carolyn
Love this tour.

Years ago when my children were little we took them up the coast out of Sydney to a place called OLD SYDNEY TOWN, it was a whole village done out like the early settlement of Sydney with actors playing the various parts, a good time was had by all and it showed the children that life was not always as easy as it is now but sadly they closed it down a while back now.
ReplyDeleteMerle....
I love homeschooling too! Field trips are the best. The pictures were beautiful and made me want to come for a visit.

A time gone by yet it seems like it could be today in Europe. In America, were a demanding country and want everything now, which is a shame as we lost what we were suppose to be, what God wanted us to be.
ReplyDeleteI feel good at night that I worked hard, created food with my hands and heart, filled bellies with delish food and that is good for us, natural. Simple pleasures that create memories and happiness.
Yes, it seems like I can slip right into your photos as you could too.
warm hugs Carolyn!

Hi Lucas! What a great tour you and your nana gave us..It's charming..and so are you:)
ReplyDeleteI loved stepping back in time with you. The tour was great, loved the old school house, I too would want a seat by the woodstove. Take care, Jen.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this step back in time Carolyn. It reminds me a bit of Kings Landing Historical Settlement but on a smaller scale. Looks like we'd be fighting over the seats closest to the wood stove in the school. ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely walk, thank you. Greetings from me and the Czech Republic.
ReplyDeleteDear Carolyn,

Carolyn, many thanks for this trip. I feel like in Avonlea. This is Anne's school and it must be Mr.Blair's store. And pastor Allan's church. Wonderfull!
ReplyDeleteIsn't this part of the fun of having children around, though - field trips?!!! I'm really serious about that. It's so fun to expose them to the world - to give them experiences. It boomerangs back on us and I feel like I'm the one enriched! =D
ReplyDeleteThe museum looks like it's lovingly put together with lots of fun details! Thanks for taking us along! =]

Beautiful post! I love stepping back in time. ;-) We homeschool, too. And love it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love those historic villages and try to visit them very often. We have several of them here in Germany.
ReplyDeleteStepping back in time is always very inspiring, not only for the decoration.
Thanks for that.
Love Tina
