Welcome to our romantic style garden as today I would like to share a few of my favorite highlights in the garden now.
The Prairie Princess rose is blooming around our garden terrace as well as a Japanese Ivory Silk lilac adding a wonderful fragrance as well as beauty.
It is still peony season here so I have picked some for bouquets.

This is the other side of the terrace.
I love the combination of peonies and roses. The peony is Festiva Maxima one of my favorites as it originally came from my Dad's garden.
This romantic rose is Lambert Close.

I love this Constance Spry rose with the white and blue clematis around it.
Love the delicate beauty of my new Petticoat Fairy Tale rose. I love the blush of apricot in the centre.

The Queen of Denmark is loaded with blooms this year.

The arbor with Constance Spry and William Baffin in the background.
This is one of my favorite lilac for scent as it is a delicate sweet scent that wafts around the garden.
Constance Spry again.
Sarah Bernhardt -a late Lactiflora, double, soft seashell pink, has a slight red edging in the middle of the flower, fragrant, slow grower, many stems, it belongs on the “good” list of well paid cut flowers, (Lemoine 1906).

Earlier this week we had a camera crew come in from Japan to film our garden for a September viewing of our garden and other spots around the Island and Nova Scotia.Wo hoo!
A romantic place for a cup of tea in the garden.The beautiful hardy rose behind the bench is a soft mauve pink with a wonderful old fashion rose scent-it is Snow Pavement.
Or maybe you would rather sit here for a spell and admire the peonies and roses behind you.

ReplyDeleteHow lovely must it be to have the flowers of peonias, roses and hyrangeas at the same time.
Here in Switzerland you never have, as the peonias quit mostly when the roses start to flower and it ist just now that the first hydrangeas start to take color.

Just stunning, Carolyn! I wish I could take in the sights and smells, but the pictures almost make me feel like I'm there. Your roses and peonies are gorgeous. Things are moving to fast here what with the early arrival of warm weather. I've seen sedums already getting their rosiness.

I'm looking for the inspiration for my garden. And I finally know how the Prince Edward Island looks! When I read "Ann of Green Gables", I was dreaming to see the island. Now I know :)

ReplyDeleteI am happy you have been enjoying it. The soil on Prince Edward Island is a good clay soil but I do add mushroom compost to it to give it a boost.However,I do have gardening friends that do not add anything to their soil and still have beautiful gardens.
Parts of our garden are 20 years old so they have had time to develope. The design developed over time as well and I read many garden books and magazines always looking for ideas that would work for us.

I have peony 'Festiva Maxima' too. It had 88 flowers last year, can you imagine it? It is beautiful this garden of yours.

I was wondering what kind of bug is on your white lilac? I have never seen one like that.

I'm enjoying your roses more than usual this morning. Yesterday I had to remove mine - black spot. I'm going to have to start over next year with a new variety more suitable to the cold rainy Northwest. I'm going to try a David Austen "Ambridge" rose.

Carolyn, congratulations your garden is such a triumph. Its so wonderful to get recognition after all the hard work you put in. I am following along and love popping in for inspiration. We planted about quite a lots of roses 2 years ago, I'm hoping that eventually we can have a display like you have all around the garden. Rosa Lambert Close is gorgeous and I haven't heard of it before. I will see if I can hunt out a supplier over here in the UK.

ReplyDeleteLucky flowers to call your garden home! Congrats on the filming, so exciting (we filmed a segment here yesterday for Pink Days In Bloom on NTV's Places to Go so that was fun).
I spied that sweet Apple Bloom teacup - love the one you sent Christmastime. When in Victoria last month, I found some various size plates to match up with the settings I have already - all I need now is a teapot (to go with that creamer and sugar bowl) and the dream set will be complete! LOL If your sister ever decides to let hers go, please mention me to her. :-)
I cannot get over how in bloom your garden is. My peonies are just starting but we had downpours of rain today and tomorrow I will have to re-stake them all.
It sounds as though you are really having a lovely summer. Hope it keeps up and you enjoy each day. I saw Heather in a recent post - please tell her I love the print. :-) Talk soon.

Ah, splendor in the garden! Just lovely, Carolyn. My hubby and I have been sick all week with the flu so I haven't been making my rounds as much this week. Glad I could stop by and take in this bit of paradise on our Island. Have a beautiful weekend.
