Hello everyone,
It was a beautiful morning here today and we were pleasantly surprised to find that our pond had frozen over, thick enough to go skating on. So,my husband and I donned our skates and went for a skate. It has been years since we were skating but I guess it is somewhat like riding a bike, you never forget how, once you learn.
Anyway, after all that fresh air and exercise it was Tea Time.
This Skye McGhie 'Brown Botanicals' teapot was a little Christmas gift to myself. I found it when I was out shopping with my daughter at the Friends and Flowers shop, in Kensington P.E.I.-it is a lovely shop full of treasures!
Since I ate way too much of the sweet stuff over Christmas, I am having some caramel yogurt(my new fav) with raspberries and granola with my tea. The vase is also the 'Brown Botanicals'.
Try it-you will love it!
See the cute little skates in the background?
Don't worry-I have a cup for you too! this one is Brown Toile-'Peppertree Tabletops'.
And another cup for your friend-made in England but no name.
There I am! Yikes another bad hair day too!
But give me a few more hours of practice and I will really be kicking up my heels,I am sure!!!
I am joining Rose Chintz Cottage for Tea Time Tuesday today.
Take care,
Carolyn
Nice photos! and you look a very good skating!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year from Diario de mi jardin!!
Carolyn, I am so intrigued by hot tea. I've never had it, and don't know how to fix it. Maybe you could give a little tutorial for us newbies to tea? You make it look so warming and comfy. Do you use a strainer? What about tea bags? If you only have bags, do you steep them in the pot, or in your cup? I make a little tray for our Teacher of the Year once a month, and I know she loves hot tea. I've bought a pretty little tea pot and an adorable cup, I've got cheese straws ready to bake, but I don't know how to make tea! Help!
ReplyDeleteDear Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI did have fun watching your beautiful pictures and must say that you are living in the right part of the world if you love winter. Looks like your wonderful house is sitting in a stunning location.
Here in Denmark we had a couple of extremely cold winters past couple of years but this one has turned out very, very mild. So far. Actually I am already longing for Spring :0)
Have fun and enjoy!
It looks like fun:) I have not been skating since i was a child.
ReplyDeleteHere in Norway (Stavanger) it has been raining and windy for months. Last year it was a really cold winter.
Hugs
What beautiful photographs. Well done! I love the tea ware too. Thank you, your photos brightened my day.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, your duck pond will be the scene of many parties, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your new teapot! You know, in all the years I spent in Kensington, I've never gone to that flower shop!
Thank you for stopping by for tea today.
Happy New Year to you and your family,
Sandi
Thanks for the tea: D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ice skating ......
You have a beautiful house;)

Sabry!
Hi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteMay God's richest blessings be upon you and yours this new year and always! Thank you for lifting our spirits through your beautiful blog! It is good to find a place like yours so inspiring... Your blog and Cielo's blog were my inspirations to start my blog. Thanks again for such loveliness!
With love, ~Wendy
Hello Carolyn
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how smooth your pond is - you'll be twirling around it in no time! Skating parties sound like fun, be sure to take some photos to share.
And, I'm trying to love winter but it's so cold and damp here today, even the dog wouldn't walk this morning. We passed 3 houses and his paws were frozen and he sat with them up in the air - guess who carried him home?
Your new teapot is adorable.
Judith
Wonderful! A skating party and tea! Perfect! I love the Skye McHie Brown Botanicals teapot ... great gift to yourself! I love yogurt! All your brown botanicals and transferware are lovely. Happy Tea Day and Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in the deep south, I never learned to ice skate! It looks fun and I'm so glad that you shared a picture of you!
ReplyDeleteThe new tea pot is gorgeous! I love the sweet handle!
What a lovely teapot and I did so enjoy having tea with you! Wishing you well with your skating experiences. I never really learned how...I would be one bruised lady!
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure the one picture was your husband!
ReplyDeleteHow fun, and the after tea gorgeous.
That's one of the prettiest teapots I have ever seen. Thankyou, tea was delightful!
ReplyDeleteYour tea looks like it was just the thing after skating, Carolyn! I love those little ice skates in the background. I haven't skated in years, but I remember loving it as a teen.

ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn: I found your blog last year and have so enjoyed your beautiful pictures. You have a lovely balance of the seasons in PEI and it is wonderful that you embrace each one of them. If I ever make it to PEI again I will have to see your garden (even if just from the road)! Wishing you and your beautiful family a joyous and prosperous New Year.
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn. love your brown-colored porcelain! It was just beautiful! I'm going to decorate with more brown forward, it provides such a cozy atmosphere in home, I think:) Skaiting looks very fun:) Wish you a nice week. Hugs Ellen.
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tea! It's +4 here in Alberta today, brown with no snow, buds peeking up from the ground & a lovely Chinook breeze. It's supposed to be +7 tomorrow! And they predicated that this was going to be a record cold winter with huge snowfalls like last year. Hmmmm.
I'm like you and not wanting to eat anymore. Yogurt sounds like the perfect snack for later. Thanks for the great idea.
Sincerely, from warm Alberta,
Chy
Oh WOW, Carolyn. You were so BRAVE to get out on that ice. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteLoved your new teapot and all the table setting. Charming to the max. Thanks for sharing. Susan
I love your new pot! How fun you could skate on the pond! The English transferware teacup pattern is called Fair Winds, in case you wanted to know!
ReplyDeleteRuth
Hi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteOh, tea is lovely. I had fun visiting your page today :) :) That's nice that you can go ice skating. It's never cold enough for that here. HOwever, there is an outdoor ice skating rink that has been set up somewhere here in town. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather ;)
Oh Carolyn. You make me sigh. Such a wonderful blog, such a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteEverything about this post - music included - is a relaxing wonderful mood lifting experience.
Thank you so much for your efforts, it is a pleasure to have tea with you...anytime.
Happy New Year, ma'am!
Hey there, Ms. Carolyn! Lol Well, after seeing your duck pond in its initial stages, I am thrilled to bits that your skating dream has come true.
ReplyDeleteI watched the news just now and it seems you had quite the sunny and warm day there (perfect for skating on the pond) - even the PEI growers are harvesting cabbage, the first time ever in January! All our snow has now gone, too, thanks to the rain and unseasonably warm temps. Isn't the weather so unusual these days?!
The yogurt and granola looks very yummy. I might just have to try some for myself. And looove your new tea acquisition. I know that you don't have too many teapots. Haha!!!!!
Hugs,
Linda :-)
Loved the photos, now skating is not something I have ever tried I do not think I would be able to do it thought can see myself falling over a lot...........lol
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn , I love winter indeed ...and I enjoy skating . Unfortunately, today in Toronto the temperatures were close to minus 25( wind chill ) , too cold for that pleasure . I adore your new teapot and all the tea setting. Thank you for the delightful experience !
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the splendor of this wonderful season !
What a lovely romantic start to the day. Wishing you a healthy & happy new year Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteHugs Rosemary...xx
Happy New Year, dear Carolyn! I'm completely captivated by the idea of you skating on your OWN backyard pond! No wonder you love winter! Just magical. And that cameo box is exquisite. Wishing you and your family the best new year ever. Thank you for all you share with us here – it's a privilege to visit. – g
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tea. I just bought me a brown toile teapot and mug recently. I just love seeing your beautiful tea parties. You are an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tea party and teapot!Yogurt with caramel looks nice and just right after the holidays...
ReplyDeleteWe can only skate indoor at the moment so I like youre pictures at the pond very much... Greetings Diana
Hi Carolyn, thanks for this magic and romantic tea time... Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing you kicking up your heels! Fun times await when the children join you for a skater's tea. It's always nice to catch a glimpse of the lovely cottage you share with us...
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn, I love all the wonderful tea items and especially the white cup. Just delightful!
ReplyDeleteBeing a Florida gal, I have never actually seen a frozen pond....snow and ice, yes, but not a pond. It is beautiful and it looks like you were having fun.
Wonderful pictures.
Barb
Beautiful pictures as usual. I wish you and your family a Happy New Year and most of all a better health for your granson. All my blessings,
ReplyDeleteCatherine
Mmmm...the first pictures and your yogurt are my favorites!
ReplyDelete^_^
Diana
Oh, how do you do it? Such lovely vignettes and beautiful photos. I have only just discovered your blog and I am enchanted!
ReplyDeleteI love skating, but do so very little. When I was a girl, there were cranberry bogs frozen over all over the place, they make fab skating rinks--shallow, so they freeze quickly and minimal fall-through risk (less than a foot of water, I'd guess). Thanks for being so committed to sharing such peace and beauty with all of us.
Carolyn, thanks so much for the little tutorial on making tea that you were kind enough to leave me. I plan on making some soon!
ReplyDeleteYour new teapot is beautiful. What a wonderful way to enjoy the day...skating on your pond followed by a lovely cup of tea. That is the perfect way to start a new day in a new year. Wishing you all the very best for the New Year.
