Another Snow Day!!!

Hello everyone,
Well, we had another snow day here on the Island with schools and work cancelled for many people. We are getting more snow this winter then we have had for the past few years even though we had a late start on winter-it was mid January before we had any real amount of snow and cold. We now have high banks of snow along the sides of the road but even in our yard it is filling up. Andrew has done a lot of shovelling lately- I would help him but sadly we only have one shovel. ha!ha!

Andrew has even had to shovel some snow off the roof of our house - too much weight on the roof.

I opened the door and took this shot a few minutes ago.

I am showing you these pics because some of you were wondering if I was working in the garden yet. I think it might be awhile for me yet.
Notice how the snow is up to the top of our picket fence which is about 4 ft. high. Andrew also had to shovel off the cottage roof as there was about 3 ft. of snow on it . Some years we get lots of wind with the snow to blow it off the roof but this year not so much.

I love the snow but by March I will be hoping it goes quickly.

This was shot from our bedroom window on a sunny day last week. A winter garden can still be beautiful to me.

I do enjoy watching the birds from our kitchen window. This downy woodpecker is a frequent visitor.

I love the chickadee's.

These mourning doves like to sit on the arbor outside our window.

They are such sweet gentle birds.

On a drive up west last week I took a picture of this pretty little church..

Well, the weather man is predicting a sunny and; warmer day on Thursday (2 degrees Celsius.) So, it may start melting some of this pretty white stuff. I think I need to get out my cross country skies and enjoy it while I can!!!

I am showing you these pics because some of you were wondering if I was working in the garden yet. I think it might be awhile for me yet.

Before you go , I want to tell all you nature lovers about  Flower Hill Farm a blog that is full of beautiful photos of Carol's amazing organic garden that attracts so many beautiful birds.  Carol is a wonderful photographer and is so dedicated to her farm and the wildlife on it. I have learned so many interesting things about the life of birds etc.so if you haven't already been there I hope you take time to pop in and enjoy!

Also, the header on my blog has disappeared-does anyone know why this happens? A couple of years ago ,all my photos from my first year of blogging vanished never to return so I would hate to have that happen again.

Take care,
Carolyn

  2. These photos are just so stunning. Here in Australia we are enjoying quite a rainy, cool summer this year. I have never seen snow. ;) My children are desperate to travel "somewhere snowy" - I must show them your photographs! Your home looks like a fairytale to me. :) xx

  7. Hi Carolyn
Do you think Mother Nature is making up for when we already had lots of snow and you still had your grass showing? :-)
Blogger only allows 1 GB of memory for your photos - you can clear that and start all over but many previous photos will disappear.
When this 'out of space' thing hit me last week, I bit the bullet and purchased 80 GB for $20 US per year - well worth it when we like to post lots of pictures.

  8. Your pictures are beautiful, but I would not want all that snow here.
We have warmer temps this week, but unfortunately that could change drastically by next week.
    Enjoy your evening.

  10. Dear Carolyn! Thank you so much for your kind words about my blog! I was so enjoying your post then scrolled down and what a surprise. Then I remembered I think you told me! My brain!! You are so sweet! I was thinking how stunning your photos are and particularly love the scene from your bedroom window with the trees all coated in snow. Your storm must have been quite horizontal to paint the trunks white so high up. I love the light in that photograph too. We have tunnels of snow and I had Michal shoveling snow the other day . . . from the roofs! I was so nervous with him up there! We have had a real winter for a change. Your home and cottage are so lovely and truly enchanting in the snow. I love your sweet birds! Great photographs of them. Those darling doves are so gentle as you say. Thank you so for honoring me dear Carolyn. Loving your world, as I do . . . I am just all the more touched by your support. Happy Belated Valentine's Day!! Warm Hugs, Carol

  11. Very beautiful. My sis who lives in CT had to use a snow rake on her roof too--I think this is the first time for her. I believe she had around 36 inches in all on the roof. It started leaking in the windows because the gutters iced up.

  13. Carolyn, your pictures of your home outside are beautful in the snow. We sure have lots of it this year! I had to purchase more GB (20) of storage a few weeks ago for $5. I hope it does me for a while :-) I wonder what happened to your pictures? I'm looking forward to the above freezing temperatures coming on Thurs. and Fri. aren't you? Have a great week.Pam

  15. Carolyn, The pics are lovely but the concern is what is going on with blogger? I had a notice when I was posting and it refused to allow me in mid post to load anymore pics until I purchased space. But I never heard of a header disappearing!!!! I would contact blogger. Also I would write a post called HELP and ask all viewers for direct help. I think many were distracted by the pretty pics, but lets get to the bottom of this. It is scary to think that can happen.

  16. My heavens Carolyn I think you have more snow than we do! That never happens..we had +3 today and allot is melting so hopefully we have a slow melt this spring so the flooding doesn't happen. Your photos are lovely and I love seeing the birds are being well fed. Take care.

Your home is gorgeous and I love all the snow around it. I can't believe I'm saying this but I miss the snow.
I love the bird photos! I miss my doves we don't have them here and also the beautiful cardinal. I always had these birds at my old home. I would feed them all year and watch them.
    Thanks for the memories!

  26. Hi Carolyn,

That is a lot of snow. Just like we´ve had for the last four months. Although it is so beautiful on a sunny day, I am really looking forward to spring right now! But please tell Andrew to be careful on the roof :)

    The church is so cute!

    Have a nice day,

  29. Even though I'm getting real tired of snow (we got our first snow in the middle of November!)I must say your home looks adorable in all the snow - and with the lamps on!

I'm glad you're feeding the birds. Here they get half our food account every month, lol.

Hope you are having a nice day.

  32. Brrr, Carolyn. It is absolutely gorgeous, but I don't think this southern girl could make it in that much snow. I know you are safe and warm in your home. And, spring is just around the turn.

  34. Your photos are just beautiful, Carolyn! Your place looks like a winter wonderland. As pretty as it is however, I cannot wait for it all to disappear! This is the hardest year my poor hubby has put in on the job. Every evening he comes home totally exhausted!
I'm sorry you lost your pictures! I will have to break down and buy some more myself very shortly as mine are pretty much used up too.
The pictures in your new header are beautiful! Have a nice day.

    Blessings,

  35. Hi Carolyn,
What beautiful photos! I know it can be a hardship for those who have to work in the snow, but if you can stay home, it's an absolute joy to be warm and cozy inside and look outside to such a glorious landscape.
Everytime I read your blog it makes me want to break out my dvds of Avonlea and Anne of Green Gables. It's so very pretty where you live! It's definitely on our list of places to visit.
    Stay warm and safe.

  38. Dearest Carolyn,
Pleasant places like sitting inside your sweet home while it's snowing would be delightful.

Haha I laughed about the snow shovel! You are so right to only have one shovel....save some for others in the business world. Grins!

Our snow is melting and the ground is really muddy to slide around on and make a mess. I noticed some trees here in Kansas are getting a tint of green....think it's early since it's just February.

    God bless ya,
    d from homehaven

  43. Dear Carolyn,

Despite the huge amount of snow your house looks really romantic! I believe I have never before seen so much snow as has fallen on your island. It will take a while before it has all melted away! We are having +10 degrees celsium in Holland. It feels a bit like spring already. I hope it will arrive soon for you too!!!

Meanwhile be careful & keep warm!

    Lieve groet, Madelief xox

  45. Dag Carolyn,

  50. It looks like a winter wonderland out there. The snow can be pretty, but work like shoveling can get pretty tiresome, especially when icicles start to form. Ice dams are another problem when it's too cold snow is falling heavily.

Well, the best thing to do is work when you need to work, and enjoy the scenery despite its flaws.
